San Antonio Trip

I thought that I would tell you a little about our trip to San Antonio. We got there around noon and picked up our rental. Checked into our hotel which was about 2 blocks from the famous riverwalk. The hotel loaned us a wheel chair (no foot rests), so Dad pushed and I held my feet up. We started at La Villita which is where the first Mexicans settled. The houses are now little shops mostly high end stuff. (I tried to put a picture here but only got a jumble of words) We ate the the only Tex-Mex food here. Dad had a hamburger and I ate a wonderful pork dish that the menu said was an original Mayan recipe.

Next, we went to the River Walk. Here we took a guided boat tour. It winds through downtown SA. There are still some walls and buildings that have been there since and the 1700's although it is now mostly commecial. It is an oasis of cool and green. It was beautiful. After this we went back to the hotel and rested until dinner. We ate in the Tower of the Americas. It is a rotating restruant 750 feet above the city.

The next morning we went to the Alamo. I was surprised at how touched I was by the history of this area. Can you imagine 216 men fighting an army of 2000. They tried. Some of the walls are still the original and the rest has been restored to look original. We ate lunch at the first grist mill to be opened in SA. The restruant is in the home of the family that started it. It and the grain mill (now a factory) are still owned by the first family.

We went to one of the missions where dad walked around, but I was to tired. We found the SA temple, but the gates were locked and we could only see the back of the temple. Onward to the convention. Dad took the car back to airport and I ordered room service and rested. During the convention (except the opening general session) I went to meetings and dad sat at the pool and took phone calls about the latest diasters at camp. On the last night we went to a dude ranch (where we saw the hairy pig). Sunday morning we flew home and dad left for camp.

I tried to put pix in with the text, but failed. If you know how would you let me know.

first post

Hi,

I decided that since everyone else had a blog, we might as well have one too. This is the second week that Dear hubby (DH) has been gone. They have already had a scout break his arm at camp, but his dad was one of the scoutmasters and took care of it. Camp inspection is next week, so he is working hard to get everything in order for that.

I am in Cedar today to work and have 3 tests. I need all three to buy for my sanity sake.

Once I get the hang of doing this I'll have to post some pix of our trip to San Antonio.
